Meet the Camp Sunrise Junior Staff
Each summer YouthCARE hires youth to live and work at Camp Sunrise to develop their leadership and employment skills. During the summer of 2011, 11 youth ages 16 to 18 worked 10 weeks at Camp Sunrise.
2011 Junior Counselors Jasmine Phetdara Pa Zao Moua Vanna Vang Evelyn Smith Mitsay Lee Chris Chhouy Joe Schafer Charlie Vang The Junior Counselor Program employs eight youth ages 16 - 18 from diverse ethnic, cultural, and racial backgrounds to live and work together at Camp Sunrise. The focus of the program is leadership development through employment training, counselling skills, and outdoor living experiences. This is met through an extensive orientation and training that combines counselling with group as well as individual initiatives.
2011 Counselors In Training Estefania Navarro Diondre Davis McKenzie Freeze The Counselor In Training (CIT) Program provides alumni Junior Counselors with a "step up the leadership ladder". CITs continue to develope their leadership and counselling skills in working with youth and adults from diverse ethnic, cultural, and racial backgrounds. During the 10 week summer program CITs gain valuable experience and strengthen their knowledge about outdoor/camping skills, leadership, the environment, cultural awareness, and peer counselling skills. In addition, CITs serve as active role models for campers and Junior Counselors at Camp Sunrise.
