Meet the 2009 Community Service Stars (CS Stars)!

The Community Service Stars Program provides meaningful employment and service-learning opportunities for 10-15 Minneapolis youth, 14-17 years old, from diverse ethnic, cultural and racial backgrounds. Crew members work with adult staff to identify and study important issues currently impacting their urban community such as violence prevention, homelessness, racism, and the environment and then the crew serves with nonprofit organizations that address these community needs. While working together to improve their communities, the youth learn leadership, self-sufficiency, intercultural communication and conflict resolution skills, form friendships across cultural lines, receive career training, visit college campuses, and assist with planning, budgeting, and evaluation of the program.
